Monday

Not in the mood to use coupons?

Well, then I have some good news for you! Somtimes, I just don't feel like using coupons. Yes me, the coupon queen! I do have a few strategies that seem to work so that I can still plan to make some good, healthy meals but not have to use any coupons at the store!

First tip: shop at Aldis!

Have you ever tried shopping there? If not, here are a few things to keep in mind so you aren't totally shocked when you enter their not-so-typical store!
#1) You have to make sure you have a quarter so that you can check out a cart. Don't worry, you will get your quarter back as long as you return your cart! That is one of the many ways Aldis keeps their costs down and pass their savings onto us!

#2) Bring your own reusable shopping bags. For many retailers, they have to up the cost of their food simply by offering bags for your groceries. I have gathered a few up along the way and have even gotten some for free. They are great to use, plus you are really helping out the environment!

#3) You can't be brand-loyal. Sure, there are a few things that  I am super brand loyal - (one of them being Hidden Valley low-fat ranch. There is nothing better!) But for just about everything else, you should be open to other brands.

#4) Make sure to pay with cash or debit - they do NOT accept credit cards.

Those are my tips for shopping at Aldis. A few things that I regularly buy at Aldis that are much cheaper than at other stores:

Eggs: typically about .79 for a dozen eggs
Block of cheese: $1.69
Milk: $1.79 for a gallon!
93% lean ground turkey: $2.49
French fries: $1.69 or so
Apple juice: $1.19
Onions (very cheap) but this week I got a whole bag for just .49!
Celery: .99
Apples: $1.99 for a 3 lb bag!
Strawberries (when in season) .99
Grapes (whenin season) $1.99 for 2lbs!
Tangerines: $1.99 for an entire bag!
Soup (like cream of mushroom etc.) .49? I can't recall, but they are relatively cheap
Tortilla chips: .99
"doritos" off brand chips .99
"fritos"  off brand chips .99
jalapenos: $1.29/jar
refried beans: .69-.99
Pinto beans: .99 (for a 32 oz. jar)
Those are the main things I tend to buy there, but they also randomly have brand name things in their store on sale. I hope this helps show you how you can save money without using coupons!

I would also reccomend making a list of typical prices of things that your family uses on a regular basis. Then, when they go on sale at a "rock bottom" price, it is time to stock up!

Second tip: Use what you have in your pantry! I know you've probably heard this before, but you don't have to make every meal using meat. I try to eat 3 meatless meals a week - and they are still tasty and satisfying! One great meal I make are bean tostadas. I toast up some corn tortillas with a little cooking spray in a 400 degree oven for 10 minutes. Then, once they are crispy, I use some pre-made refried beans I got from Aldis, along with some shredded cheese, lettuce, jalapenos and sour cream! Two of these are very filling, and delicious!

I know I also always have some frozen fish or chicken in the freezer that needs to be used up. You can always make an easy meal of chicken and rice! All you need are 4 chicken breasts, 1 cup of brown rice and one can of reduced fat cream of mushroom soup (I have found the fit and active brand of reduced fat soup to be a great deal at Aldis). Combine the rice, soup and a can of water. Mix that up and put the chicken on top. Bake in a 350 degree oven for one hour and you have a delicious meal, that took no prep at all! Serve with some frozen veggies you have in the freezer and you have a balanced meal that took no effort at all!

Friday

Friday night movie

So I don't know about you, but sometimes (more often than not) I am exhausted when the work week rolls to and end. And especially this time of year, work has been VERY busy! Now I don't mind being busy, but when I go home I want to relax. How about renting a movie? I love watching movies, it is a great way to unwind and relax - that and a glass of 3 buck chuck from Trader Joes. Have you used this movie code ( DLLNS26, GANTS9, DVDONME or BREAKROOM) yet to score your FREE movie rental from Red Box? Nothing is better than FREE! :)

40% off everything at the Limited this Friday only!

I just got an e-mail from the Limited stating that everthing on Black Friday will be 40% off! I don't know about you, but I feel like this is one place that won't be overly crowded like Walmart or Target.

Also, did you see that you can get FREE shipping? That is also really great. You can ALSO get a free ruffle scarf with any $75 purchase.

One tip that I just read: You can go in right now and save things to your cart that catch your eye. Then, all you have to do on Black Friday is check-out and get an amazing 40% off! I think that sounds pretty sweet- and you never even have to change out of your pajamas or leave the house! I LOVE the Limited!!!!!

Coach outlet coupon

Do you have someone in your life that loves Coach purses? I absolutely love them, and probably have too many purses (I think I own about 5 purses and a few coin purses, too). I have some good news - Coach has released yet ANOTHER 20% off coupon to use at the outlet stores. The closest one for me is in Albertville. Anyway, get the coupon here to make someone really happy this holiday season!

Psst: They never have to know how LITTLE you spent on them! It can beour little secret :)

Thanks for the coupon, Hip2Save)

Black Friday shopping: Good or bad idea?

I read an interesting article in the Star Tribune about shopping on black Friday....you can read it here.

I am always wanting to go to the stores and buy the great deals advertised, but are the long lines and the headache worth it? Most stores that have such great deals have limited quantities and no rain checks. Remember the stampede at WalMart?

What John suggests, which many of my fellow Target shoppers already do, is to use a stores' price matching policy. We do know that Target does do price matching, with some limitations. Target doesn't match door busters, limited-time or quantity offers or coupon items, although most other items are matchable.

The most interesting part of the article is that someone mentioned they do all of their shopping on black Friday at WalMart because they price match all competitors' ad prices. John, the writer of the article, even called WalMart to verify that they would match the prices- and they will. This even includes door busters from 6-8 a.m. Even those ads with the fine print stating "limited quantities." The only issue you might encounter is that the item has to be EXACTLY the same.

You can check out Black Friday deals in advance on sites like www.bfads.net.

Monday

Cheap Magazines

Do you love getting magazines in the mail? I know I do, but I defintiely don't love how much they can cost. There are a few sites, yes they are legitimate, where you can get really cheap magazine subscriptions.

Best Deal Magazines - they offer some pretty good deals on magazines. A current deal that really sticks out to me is the Rachael Ray magazine. It is currently only $7.49 for a whole year. That is a GREAT price considering the fact that each magainze costs between $4-6! Check out other deals here.

Another site I frequent is Low price subs. They've got over 15 magainzes right now for about $2 for an entire year! A few ones that stick out to me are Marie Claire, Shape and Weight Watchers. That is a GREAT deal! Check out those specials here.

Sunday

Deals for 11/22 at Wags/Cub (*with a pic now!)

I made two trips today, one to Walgreens and one to Cub.

Cub has birds eye frozen veggies on sale for .48...and I used the .35 MQ from the 11/15 SS. I got 4 bags for only .52!

I also made a trip to Walgreens where I scored a lot of great stuff for only $13....althought the receipt I have pictured here only shows my first transaction.

Overall today, here is what I got for around $14 (and I still have a $10 RR)

3 Lubriderm lotions
2 boxes Ritz Crackers
3 boxes triscuits
1 Almay Foundation
2 large bottles of Nexxus Shampoo
2 Lindt truffles
2 coffee mate creamers
2 children's triamincs
3 pkgs carefree liners
3 reynolds foil
4 bags frozen veggies
16 holiday cups

Saturday

Bakery Outlet

I just wanted to post what I got today so that you can see how much you really can get at a bakery outlet:

4 loaves of bread
4 packages of hot dog buns
2 packages of lite hamburger buns (my fav)
1 package of Earth's best lite sammie buns
2 bags of mini bagels

The bread was on special for .50 as well as the hamburger/hot dog buns. And the bagels were $2/2.....plus when you spend $7 you get a FREE item (which I got the Earth's best sammie buns). I think that is pretty good since bread costs at least .90 at most stores :)

Shopping trips I plan to make today

Hi everyone,

Sometimes, I just don't feel like using coupons, but I still want a good deal. Here is a tip that many of you might not even think about. When you need bread, bagels, hot dog buns or hamburger buns, do you typically pay full price? Even if they go on sale, it still can be really expensive! Here is what I found....a bread outlet! I frequent a bread outlet in Eagan, MN. It is a Taystee outlet that sells cheap products. I can get bread there for around .75 a loaf. I also get an entire pack of hamburger/hot dog buns for about .50! Even with a coupon, you couldn't really get it this cheap. My wonderful hubby to be bought me a freezer for my b-day (I really wanted one) so I can make one trip a month or every other month and stock up for such a great price! Happy shopping!

I also plan on going to Toys R Us today to get a free or cheap Mr. Potato head for my niece. They are currently a doorbuster special for only $3.99. Check it out here. You can pair that with a coupon from here for a sweet deal. What a great auntie I can be! =)

PINK deal at Victoria's Secret

Ok, I know I'm now 26 years old, but I have to confess that I still LOVE to wear PINK sweats around the house - perhaps it makes me feel like I am in college again ;) Anyway, thanks to Hip2Save, here is a SWEET deal!

First off, if you aren't already a member of Pink nation, then you will want to join. They have a lot of great coupons they send out. You can join here to get your $10 off $50 coupon.

Then, make sure to use this coupon by November 23rd. The OTHER good news is that there are TONS of hoodies and sweats on sale for around $25.

The reward card value is a mystery until you make a purchase December 1st-24th. Each card is at least worth $10 and thousands are worth $100 or more!

My Deal Scenario:
Buy 2 Pink Hoodies or Sweatshirts =$50 for both

Use the $10 off $50 coupon from above

This is a relly good deal!

New cereal coupons

If you love to have cereal as a snack like I do, then make sure you print these off. I am sure they will go great with a cereal deal at either Walgreens, Target, Cub or Rainbow. I try not to pay more than .50 -$1.00 per box of cereal. It's not that hard with coupons like these!

And finally, there are lots of new Kellogg's coupons available:

Coffee Mate coupon

Don't you just love the holidays? I have to say, I LOVE coffee, and I also LOVE coffee creamer. Right now, there is a $1/1 high value coupon on their Web Site here. If you haven't already registered, I would do so because I have gotten a lot of high value coupons from here lately. (Thanks, Hip2Save)

*Pssst...wanna know the best part? Next week, Walgreens has a sale on these, B1G1. Use two coupons, and score them both for around .49 (YMMV). Sweet!

Rainbow double coupon days

Have you tried doing double coupon days at Rainbow? I've recently started, and have learned how to get the most for my money. What double coupons days means is that if you spend $25 in the store on anything, then you can double up to 5 coupons- up to $1 but no more than that. One thing to keep your total as low as possible is to know the way the register works. To reach $25, it counts the shelf price of a product. Here is an example.

This week, Folgers coffee is on sale for $4.99- the BIG tub. That is a rock-bottom price. That alone is a good reason to buy this because there are coupons from 11/8 RP insert. If you double it, then the coffee is only $2.99. But, keep in mind that this coffee's shelf price when not on sale is around $9.99. This will make it really easy to reach your $25 total.

Here is what I plan on doing today:

Buy 3 air wick freshmatics kits for $4.99
-use the $5 MQ from 11/15 SS
Final price: free

That will bring my total up to $15 (at a minimum), without having to pay for anything. Sometimes, rainbow makes the shelf price the sale price. (Tricky Rainbow)

Folgers coffee: $4.99
-Use $1 MQ (doubled)
Final price: $2.99

My total spent at Rainbow should now be at $25......so here is what I will get free after coupons (same transaction)

Ragu Pasta Sauce (2): .87 (on sale through today only)
Buy 2 and use $0.75/2 coupon from 11/15 RP
Final price: .24 after doubled coupon

Nabisco Triscuit, Wheat Thins or Chicken in a Biskit $2.00 (3)
Use $1.00/1 coupon from 11/8 Smartsource insert
Final price: Free after doubled coupon

So, my total OOP should be about $3.25, and I will get: 2 Ragu pasta sauces, 4 Air wick kits, one tub of coffee and three boxes of triscuits. Not bad!

Sweet coupons for Gap and Ann Taylor Loft & JC Penny

Are you looking for some retail coupons to use to either buy yourself something new, or perhaps someone special for a holiday gift?

Right now, there is a 30% off coupon for Ann Taylor Loft....the coupon is good through Sunday, November 22 and you can get it here. You could use this on sale items to score a really sweet deal. I love their clothes...so adorable.

There is also a 20% off Gap coupon here....good through January 30, 2010. Again, use this one some clearance or sale items to make a really great deal. I recently got some cute black sinny jeans for only $13.99, and I was able to use a coupon on top of that.

If you shop at JCPenney they just snet a sweet new coupon valid thru November 23: Save $10 on any purchase of $25 or more! Get it here. (Thanks, Hip2Save)

Heads up if you plan on doing Theraflu or Triaminc deal

Hi everyone,

I'm sure you all know this already (or maybe some of you don't) as even I forgot once today....if you plan on doing the theraflu or triaminic deal where you end up using the Healthy Savings coupon booklet (to subtract $6) on top of 3, MQs, please make sure to have your cashier scan the coupon in the booklet LAST or the register won't take your last two MQs....just a friendly reminder if you want to get the most for your money! =) HTH!

Pic of my RRs from today at Walgreens

Here is a pic just of my RRs I got today, just in case you can't see the other one very well. And if you don't believe me :)

Walgreens deals for week of 10/18

See what $7.21 can get you (oh, and make you a PROFIT of $56 in RRs)

6 boxes of Zantac (perfect to give to my mom)
2 newspapers (more coupons, yay!)
6 boxes theraflu
6 pkgs of Emergen-C
1 baby powder
1 Vaseline sheer lotion
1 chapstick
6 bottles of triaminc
5 pkgs of Halls cough drops

I did have to make 9 separate transactions today, but I did very well =) I started with $8 in RRs, had to spend a TOTAL of $7.21 OOP but I did end up with $56 in RRs....that is a HUGE profit. I'm too lazy to spell out my transactions, but most of them went something like this:

Transaction #1:

3 Theraflu = $14.97
minus $6 in MQs
minus $6 from Wags Healthy savings coupon booklet
Total: $2.97
Get back $8 RR
PROFIT of $5.03

1 Zantac = $8.99
minus $5 MQ
Total: $3.99
PROFIT of $5

Halls $1= $1 RR

I had 6 coupons (I used my previous $8 RR) and 5 items, so I needed a filler and got a newspaper

So, in the entire transaction, I spent about .75, and got back $18 in RRs

Then, I'd take one of my RRs (either from Zantac of Theraflu) and use it on something else:

Transaction #2:

1 Zantac = $8.99
minus $5 MQ
Total: $3.99
PROFIT of $5

Emergen-C $3.49= $3.49 RR

Halls $1= $1 RR

Total: $8.50, use $8 RR...etc. etc. :) Do that over and over again, and that's how I made so much money!

Wednesday

Rainbow Double Coupon day deals-10/14

(Click on photos to enlarge them)

I got some AMAZING deals at Rainbow....but I'm still a newbie so my 2nd transaction for $6 could have been less, but hey, I'm not complaining. Here is what I got today for $8:

5 boxes of Special K granola bars
2 boxes of Cinnabon bars
4 boxes of cookies
1 box of cereal
1 pack of gum
1 shampoo
1 hair spray
4 boxes of crackers
1 gallon of milk
2 tubs of Promise butter

Happy shopping!

Sunday

See what $9 can get you at Rainbow and Walgreens

Rainbow has some fantastic deals this week, and I got a really great deal because I had quite a few RRs from last week at Walgreens.

Here is what I got at Walgreens and Rainbow for a total of just $9!!!

7 boxes of cereal
8 jars of Ragu sauce (good to make lasagna)
2 cover girl foundations (which cost $12.99 EACH)
4 boxes of cheez-its
3 large boxes of pop tarts
2 boxes of Cinnabon bars

I saved over $80 today =) AND, the best part is, I haven't even done double coupon day at Rainbow on Wednesday.....I had to go today because my cereal coupons expired today. They were $2/2, which is a really hot coupon.

*Note: don't forget to print out the newly re-set Triaminc, Theraflu and Zantac coupons for Walgreens next week for some MAJOR money making deals! For example:

Deal #1
$14.97 wyb three Theraflus
-$6 when you use three printable coupons (can print two per computer)
-$6 when you use coupon in Healthy Savings Coupon Booklet
Pay $2.47 plus tax out of pocket and get a $8 register reward back!

Deal #2:
$14.97 wyb three Triaminics
-$4.50 when you use three printable coupons (can print two per computer)

Wednesday

Rainbow Double Coupon day deals-10/7

So I haven't really given Rainbow a fair chance yet...meaning I never thought of doing their double coupon days. Basically, you have to buy $25 worth of items and then you can double up to 5 coupons. Check out what I got for $28 today in two separate transactions:

Two 7 lb roasting chickens (whole)-B1G1 (about $11 each)
Two mesquite pork loin roasts (2lbs each about $11 each)- B1G1
4 packs of Ronzoni pasta
2 wishbone dressings
6 Tony's pizzas
2 Buitoni fresh pastas
1 lite alfredo buitoni sauce
Coffee creamer
2 jars of skippy peanut butter
4 packs of floss

Not bad, but I'm hoping to learn how to make these deals even sweeter. Meat is always expensive, so I don't think this is too bad of a price =)

*Oh and the natural skippy p.b. printed out a $1 Cat...that I can use on next Wed. for double coupon days

Sunday

Walgreens deals for 9/27

WAGS

Today I ended up spending $13 OOP (out of pocket) at Walgreens, which is WAY more than I normally spend, but I bought my niece three care bears (her new fav thing) which cost me $6.50....so take that into consideration.

I also made $11.50 in RRs today...so it's like I really only spent $2.00 OOP...I started with $10 in RRs and ended up with $21.50! Pretty good! Here is what I got:

3 care bear stuffed animals ($2.00-2.50 each)
3 fusion razors ($8.99 each) used $4.00 MQ, $6 RR (that is a $1 profit on each one!)
3 things of Emergen-C ($3.49, $3.49 RR)
3 bottles of Herbal Essences Shampoo ($2.99-$1.00 MQ, $2 RR each)
2 bottles of Robutissin To Go ($2.40, $2.49 RR each)
A big box of kleenex: $.50 (filler item)
3 bottles of Vaseline sheer lotion (new) ($6.99, $.150 MQ,$6.99 RR=) $1.50 PROFIT!)
3 packs of Dentek flossers ($2.00-$1.00 MQ, $2 RR=$1 PROFIT)
3 packs of sugar free halls cough drops ($1.00=$1 RR-only had one .75 MQ)
1 newspaper ($1) for a filler item, and more coupons! =)
2 Oral B toothbrusher ($3-$/75 MQ, $3 RR=.75 PROFIT)
2 chap stick fresh effects ($3=$3 RR)

I had to do 6 different transactions to roll my RR and make all of the money I did. All in all I saved almost $140!

I also plan on rolling my RRs ever more this week...but thought that 6 transactions was enough for one day ;)

Monday

Walgreens profit

So, I've made about $7 at Walgreens this week, here is how:

Did you see this deal?

Carefree Ultra Protection Panti-liners $1.99=$1.99RR
Use the $1 coupon from here or from the 8/30SS
Final cost FREE + a $1 moneymaker!

Well, I started off with a $1 RR I had from a previous week. I bought the above product, used a $1 MQ and a $1 RR with a cheap filler item since I had two coupons and one item. I made $1 off of that transaction.

Then...I did this deal 4 times (since I had 8 coupons)

Buy 2 Glade Scented Oil Candle Holder or 2 oz Candle $2 each=$1RR
Deal Scenarios:

Buy two 2 oz Glade candles 2/$5
Use 2 FREE coupons from the 8/9SS
Pay nothing but tax
Get back a $1RR
Final cost FREE + a $1 moneymaker!

Then, I took that $1 I made and used it in the Carefree deal like I did above, thus making a $1 profit every time. I plan on doing that two more times, making a total profit of $10! Then, I can roll other deals from week to week.

Sunday

Rainbow

Hey all you COKE lovers (that is me-I prefer coke over pepsi, although the frugal side of me will buy pepsi if it is less than coke) did you see that coke is only $1.77/12 pack at Rainbow? That is only .15/can!

Also, if you like lean cuisine, all of them are 50% off....pretty good if you ask me!

Oh and a 5 lb bag of potatoes is only .99! Also a great deal!

My trip to Wags for .22 =)

For .22 I got:

-2 cartons of coffee
-4 packs of chinet plates (good for when the in-laws visit. Less dishes for me = more time to spend with them)
-Organic dark chocolate bar (mom will love me)
-3 dove dish soaps
-3 things of floss
-7 pencils to donate for school supplies

This is one of the best trips I've had to Walgreens in awhile. Without the easy saver booklet, it hasn't been as easy to get good deals. My total was actually -$1.81, so I had to buy that candybar in order to leave the store. Pretty rough =) Check out my receipt if you don't believe me...all I paid was .22! I also walked out with a $1 RR...so I did make money ;)

I plan on going to Wags again to score 3 more free toothbrushes, another free floss and 2 more packs of Chinet plates, for a $1 money maker. Maybe I'll have to sacrifice and get another candybar or something :)

Monday

Hi everyone,

Remember this deal at Walgreens?

Buy 3 Reach floss products (or any combo of listerine/Reach)
Use 3, $2 coupons (that I printed previously from coupons.com)

Well, I have some good news. This deal rolled for me yesterday. This means I was able to use the $3 RR from my previous transaction a week or two ago to do the same Reach deal and get another $3 RR.

Sunday

my deals for the week of 7/5

I will add more info later but all of the below cost me only $65 OOP...and that does not include the $10 I made at CVS today :)

***I know some of you shun Aldis, but for certain items, you can save up to 50%. Cheese is only $1.29 for the whole block. If you shred cheese on your own, you save over $1. And all of that fruit? I think this was a great shopping trip!

My trip tp Target: Total OOP: $40 (saved $41)

-6 boxes of Kashi granola bars
-4 boxes of Kashi cereal
-2 pizzas
-boca chix patties
-3 packages of village hearth buns
-2 packages of green beans
-can of corn
-hidden valley ranch
-laughing cow cheese
-boxed cheesy potatoes
-tomato sauce
-2 things of Pace cheesy salsa
-baked beans
-bisquick mix
-2 packages of veggies
-jiffy corn mix
-egg noodles

***The thing you need to do is stock up when things are on sale or at their lowest price. For example, the hamburger buns. They were on sale for $1.99...and are normally almost $4! That is a savings of 50%.

The Kashi granola bars deal went like this:
2 boxes of granola bars @ $2.50 each
-used 2, $1.50 coupons I printed from the internet
-used $1/2 Target coupon
Total: .50 for each box!

Market Pantry pizza:
$2.99
-use $1/off Target coupon

**This are strategies I used to cut my grocery bill cut in half, a 50% savings!

CVS Year-to-date spending vs. savings

For those of you who wonder how much "junk" I buy...I think this justifies what I do...according to my CVS receipt, for 2009 I've spent around $60 and have saved $416....I think that is pretty darn good! :) I bet it is double that at Walgreens because they really have no limits...maybe I should start tracking more closely :)

***On a side note: I wonder if this includes ECBs that I get back to spend like cash in the store? Who knows, it might even be more savings that they cannot catch :)

My deals for the week of 6/7

My total OOP for all 3 stores: $21.54
